S5, Ep2 How To Fail: FLEABAG IS BACK

Yes. That's right. Phoebe Waller-Bridge is back.
One year on from her debut appearance on How To Fail With Elizabeth Day, my first ever guest returns to talk about the craziness of her last 12 months, during which she has written and starred in Fleabag 2 (described as a televisual masterpiece by...well...almost everyone), made Killing Eve (described as a televisual masterpiece by...well...almost everyone) and been brought in by the James Bond producers to work her magic on the franchise.
It's a year that, from the outside, has seemed to many of us to be the epitome of success. But what failures lie underneath the surface? What about those private moments of vulnerability and self-doubt we are so rarely privy to?
Phoebe joins me to talk about three failures from the past year, including her failure to connect with her family, her failure to speak up for herself and her failure to Marie Kondo her bedroom. Along the way, we discuss what makes the perfect water bottle, filming THAT final scene in Fleabag (apparently the foxes were total divas), sexuality, exhaustion and why female creators are often unfairly assumed to be writing autobiography. And yes, the Meryl Streep apple crumble anecdote makes an appearance.
Thank you, Phoebe, for coming back onto the podcast and being such a generous and wonderful friend.

Fleabag Series 2 was already my all time fave tele series, this interview makes me love it even more. As is said in the interview, it is art, this is something I have said with confidence since shortly after the series ended. I have watched the full series six times and the ending still breaks me every time. No tele series has has this power over me before. - The day after the ending was first transmitted, I was on a day of Adult Protection training and felt so bad as all I could think about was the glory of Fleabag. - Also wish to stress, I think the ending breaks me, not because of it being sad or happy, though because it is perfect and real. I spent most of the series not wanting them to get together, though at the end of the 5th episode, I was glad I was watching alone as was clapping loudly and shouting 'fucking yes' at the tele. Also the not near the end of episode 4 where the priest calls her out on calling him 'father' and knowing it was sexy, was the first real sign I had that this was going to be the absolutely perfect series it proved itself to be. I am rationing how much watch as both can't cope with being emotionally slayed on a regular basis, though also don't want it to loose any of its power to move. Until now I regarded film as a higher art form, though not anymore, this is easily the best visual thing I've seen anywhere this year, as well as being the best TV series of all time. I hope this wins every award possible. PWB is an Uber genius, PWB rocks! Nuff said, Nina.
